“As an independent Consultant, I needed advice on the optimal medical and disability programs. Karen provided me with an overview of the programs, the alternatives within the programs, and answered all my questions patiently and clearly. Previous brokers I tried were unresponsive and not very helpful. With Karen I was able to secure my disability and medical insurance, and understand my coverage. I truly appreciate the professional service I received from the Elmer R. Jordan Insurance Agency.

“This letter is to thank you for the many years of excellent service you have provided. After twenty-six years, I have decided to close my catering business and “hang up my apron.” Throughout that time, I have counted on you for your business expertise and fine judgment. As you know, I have referred a number of associates to your agency knowing they will receive nothing less than the best for their insurance needs.”

New Cell Phone Laws
- July 2008
As we embark on the summer travel season,
our agency wants to remind you that effective
July 1 it will be illegal to hold a cell phone and
talk while driving.

|
|
| Dialing is permitted, as is“hands free” talking. All drivers under the age
of 18 are prohibited from using a cell phone in
any capacity while driving unless it’s an emergency. |
Although research is mixed, statistics show that having only one hand on the steering wheel, while driving and talking on a cell phone, leads to more accidents.
What are the penalties?
- The first offense will be $20, with court costs and penalties increasing it to an estimated total of $76.
- All subsequent offenses will be $50, with court costs and penalties increasing it to an estimated total of $190 per offense.
- There are no violation points, but the conviction will be added to your driving record.
- Insurance companies do not plan to increase auto insurance premiums for drivers with convictions, but this may change in the months and years ahead. We will keep you informed if our companies begin to increase premiums for offenders.
What are some “hands free” ways to talk on your cell phone while driving?
- Purchase a cell phone cradle that can be mounted to your dashboard. A conversation can then be conducted using the cell phone’s speaker function.
- Use a headset. Most cell phones offer an earpiece that can be used with it.
- Purchase a “blue tooth” earpiece or other wireless headset that can be synched with your cell phone.
- If your car has “blue tooth” capability, synch your cell phone with the car so you can speak and listen through the car’s speaker system.
Please contact our office if you have any questions. And please be especially careful while driving during the Fourth of July weekend as there will be a lot of police monitoring driver hand held cell phone use during this period.
